If it’s true that a man is only as strong as his family, then I’m mighty indeed. On September 18, 2009, I will celebrate the 22nd anniversary of my marriage with my wife Ginger, who is a talented elementary school teacher. My high school sweetheart and best friend, her faithfulness and unfailing love and support are irreplaceable. We have two daughters, Amanda and Julianne, and Amanda is married to Zach, who is currently serving his first tour of duty in the U.S. Army in Afghanistan. Their first child, Connor Ryan, is due in late September. They daily remind me that life should be fun, interesting and always a tad bit challenging.
I’ve served the Lord since becoming a Christian at age 15. Even during periods of deep grief and disillusionment, I have found God to be steadfast, continually merciful, and filled with grace. His Word is reliable, His love is never ending, and my hope in Him remains firm. Without Jesus Christ, I don’t know where I’d be – though I do have an idea, and it’s not pretty.
One of my greatest personal accomplishments was losing 50 pounds, starting at age 35 when I was diagnosed with high blood pressure. With my blood pressure now under control, I regularly exercise and love taking long walks through the beautiful University of Arizona campus.
I’m an avid sports fan, hold season tickets for UofA football, am a proud member of Raider Nation, and see the Arizona Diamondbacks as often as possible. My main side hobby is my child-like adoration for the Japanese movie monster Godzilla (and all associated kaiju). I own all the movies, collect Godzilla toys and posters, and dream someday of visiting Tokyo and seeing all those buildings he knocked down.
I’m also a documentary and travel show junkie, listen to movie soundtracks and classic jazz, love anything sung by Frank Sinatra or Ella Fitzgerald, and have yet to meet a Starbucks I didn’t like. |
